βJulyβ is a deeply personal reflection on the shame and guilt I carried after being betrayed by an ex partner. While writing it, I found myself trying to step inside their mind and understand how someone could hurt another person in that way. For a while, the experience left me feeling damaged and uncertain about love and trust. Writing this song became part of my healing process. It helped me realise that no matter how much you care for someone, you canβt change who they are. The song was first created on my vocal looper as a βstream of consciousness pieceβ and I wanted to preserve that raw, intimate feeling in the final version. Calvin Bennett totally understood the vision and helped bring that emotional honesty to life in the production.

Up next is Sydney-based singer-songwriter Katie Reid with 'July' β a raw, intimate indie-pop track born from a vocal looper and a moment of personal reckoning. Produced by Calvin Bennett, this heartfelt single captures the quiet aftermath of betrayal and the first steps toward healing.
Living and creating on Gadigal land, Scottish-Australian singer-songwriter Katie Reid emerges as a quietly compelling voice in Sydneyβs indie-pop scene. Drawing on influences from Maggie Rogers, Holly Humberstone and the theatrical sensitivity of Kate Bush, Katie turns lived experience into emotionally precise songs about love, trust and growing up in your twenties. 'July' was written as a stream-of-consciousness piece on Katieβs vocal looper and reveals the shame, confusion and eventual acceptance felt after being betrayed by an ex; producer Calvin Bennett preserved that raw intimacy while elevating it with warm, modern production. A seasoned backing vocalist for artists including Guy Sebastian and Christine Anu, Katieβs solo work has already found a dedicated local audience β her previous single 'Clouds' earned a sold-out launch at Yulliβs Brews. A winner of the Great Southern Song Comp for 'Healing' and a recipient of the 2025β26 VITAL mentoring program run by KLP, Katie is currently recording her debut EP for release in October 2026. 'July' is a tender, radio-friendly snapshot of a songwriter turning hurt into honest art.
