Inspired by lullaby songs (mostly Brahms “Wiegenlied”), Alt-Rock, MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) and Bossa Nova. This song is a tribute to my baby brother, Luiz, who was a true artist in every sense of the word. My goal is to honour his memory, creative spirit, and the legacy he left behind in me and his loved ones. Te amo Mano!
nspired by lullaby songs (mostly Brahms “Wiegenlied”), Alt-Rock, MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) and Bossa Nova. Pablo’s writing is aimed to take the listener to a place of calm and tranquility. Motivated by his great-grandfather José Laurindo DE JESUS, who was born a slave in 1893 as José Laurindo DO ROSÁRIO (Rosário; the tree species “Melia azedarach”). Rosário was the name of the farm and the surname of every slave that belonged to that farm. When José Laurindo was in his mid-twenties, he went to register himself and he chose his last name: DE JESUS. Self-taught, this black man was the only one who knew how to read and write, and he taught Germans and Italians immigrating to Brazil the Portuguese language. As musically gifted as he was, he spent his time in his workshop, he made rebecs (rustic violins), guitars and cellos. For his work, he was a teacher, with a school now named after him in Riozinho, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Pablo DE JESUS is a Brisbane-based artist weaving a tender tapestry of sound inspired by lullabies like Brahms’ 'Wiegenlied,' Alt-Rock, Música Popular Brasileira (MPB), and the iconic warmth of Bossa Nova. His latest song, 'Luiz,' is a profoundly personal tribute to his late younger brother, Luiz, celebrating his artistic legacy and deep creative bond. Through 'Luiz,' Pablo channels a sense of calm and tranquility, sharing a heartfelt moment of reverence and connection with listeners. Music runs deep in Pablo’s lineage: his great-grandfather, the remarkable José Laurindo DE JESUS, was a former slave who became a respected self-taught musician, a teacher to immigrant communities, and a craftsman of classical string instruments. That legacy now threads through Pablo’s music, layering history and soul into his work. For fans of Gustavo Santaolalla, João Gilberto, or Hiroshi Yoshimura, 'Luiz' offers a poignant journey of healing, reflection, and peace.
