Track Story

"The Woman (Who Cannot Be Named)" is the new single/focus track where we take a truckload of alternative rock and crash it into a disco! "March #23" is the noisy one and is basically 'The Gospel According to St. Matthew' set to grunge riffs, with a documentary film crew following Jesus throughout his last days. Jesus: One of you has betrayed me. Judas: Is it me, Jesus? Louis Theroux (voiceover): I began to sense a change in mood at the Supper. There appeared to be tension between Jesus Christ and his disciple Judas Iscariot over their interpretation of recent events. "Don't Go Then" is the nice one. Upbeat, major chords (except for the bridge) and the message that it's all gonna be OK. "John Doe #3" is the wildcard - a 'spy theme' instrumental recorded during a power cut!

About Royal Commission

ROYAL COMMISSION is the bedroom recording project of Dean Robb (ex-Disapora, Guys Doing Stuff - as seen on ABC TV's 'rage'). File under alternative rock, post-punk, DIY, 'noise' occasionally, 'outsider' probably, and there are a few 'nice' ones where a bit of melody or a singalong comes through too. Created on a TASCAM DP-006 with some second-hand guitars and pedals, a $13.95 microphone from Jaycar and a drum machine. That all gets loaded into Audacity for a basic mix and master and to export a digital file, but that's about it. Bona fide 4-track recording like back in the old days.

Press Blurb

Introducing ROYAL COMMISSION, the disruptive and dynamic solo project of Melbourne's Dean Robb, whose sonic palette spans alternative rock, post-punk, and unabashed DIY experimentation. Known for his fearless approach to music-making, Dean channels raw energy into 'Dossier #1,' a four-track EP that redefines the boundaries of bedroom production. Engineered with second-hand gear, a $13.95 microphone from Jaycar, and old-school 4-track recording techniques, this EP delivers unpolished authenticity with a bold creative edge. Each track unfolds a unique story: 'The Woman (Who Cannot Be Named)' mixes disco freedom with alt-rock chaos, while 'March #23' turns the Gospel narrative into a gritty grunge mini-epic, spiked with unexpected documentary-style interludes. The lighter 'Don't Go Then' offers a melodic reprieve with its uplifting vibes, and 'John Doe #3' shatters expectations with its spy-thriller instrumental, recorded mid-power cut. With a history that includes noteworthy projects like Disapora and Guys Doing Stuff, as well as appearances on ABC TV's 'rage,' Dean’s unwavering commitment to authentic, inventive music makes Royal Commission an essential listen for fans of genre-bending, outsider artistry.
