About this release

Kerri Perrett’s love for Traditional Country Music and Australian Bush Ballads has grown over a lifetime. Raised on her family’s bullock fattening and stud cattle property, “Bowenfels,” she formed a strong connection to songs that celebrate life on the land and keep the stories of the past alive. From any early age, she performed with her brother Dean at country music festivals and talent quests across Queensland. After taking time away from performing to focus on the equally rewarding role of raising her family, Kerri has made a welcome return to the music industry and is now recording her own self-penned songs. Today, Kerri is embracing this exciting new phase of her musical journey, writing and sharing stories inspired by rural Australia. Inspired by childhood memories and a lifelong connection to the land, her authentic voice reflects both where she comes from and where she is headed. Song Info: “Sugar Bird Lady” is an Australian bush ballad inspired by the remarkable life of Robin Miller. Co-written with my brother Dean Perrett, the ballad is a tribute to a woman who turned the impossible into action, combining her love for flying with nursing, to deliver life-saving polio vaccines to remote Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions in the 1960s. To disguise the bitter taste Robin placed drops of the oral vaccine onto sugar cubes, in turn affectionately earning her the nickname “Sugar Bird Lady”. This song is a tribute to her courage, compassion and quiet determination and honours a woman whose selfless service touched thousands of lives. I hope “Sugar Bird Lady” helps keep Robin Miller’s extraordinary story flying for generations to come!
