My Own Groove

Every now and then an act emerges that bridges the gap between regional grit and mainstream accessibility. Enter Thickshake, the indie-pop/rock project from Rockhampton, QLD artist Alex Budrodeen. Being a self-taught musician, Alex also took some time to learn as much of the ins-and-outs of music production (as his spare time would allow) to start producing his own music - all from the comfort of his own home music studio (or as it is otherwise known, the spare room downstairs). Thickshake's songs blend upbeat, sugar-coated guitar tunes, mellow acoustic rhythms, and even dip into synth-driven ensembles. Stepping out from the local pub scene to the regional festival scene, the grassroots momentum earned him spots at Rockhampton River Festival in 2025 and Rockynats in 2026, proving world-class indie music doesn’t just come from the capital cities. With a newly finished track in hand, Thickshake is gearing up for his most ambitious campaign yet. Thickshake isn’t just a stage name, it’s an invitation to a more vibrant sonic world. Song Info: My Own Groove is an upbeat funk pop track - think of it as the love child of Daft Punk in their Random Access Memories era and Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars from Uptown Funk. What started as a classic shower-thought, turned into a funky track ready to get you up and bopping along from the start. Completely written, recorded, and produced in my home studio.
