About this Song

Despite the title, this song has nothing to do with the pandemic! It's a tribute to the DIY culture that emerged during the Cold War, some would say out of necessity, because non-government approved music was illegal. "The kids" (as they always do) found a workaround by copying vinyl records of the forbidden music onto discarded x-rays, trading the tunes amongst themselves, in defiance of the regime. The underground eventually became the scene until it all folded in 1989. The Berlin Wall fell and much more sinister leaders were born.

About the Artist

ROYAL COMMISSION is the bedroom recording project of Dean Robb (ex-Guys Doing Stuff - as seen on ABC TV's 'rage'). File under alternative rock, post-punk, DIY, 'noise' occasionally, 'outsider' probably, and there are a few 'nice' ones where a bit of melody or a singalong comes through too. Created on a TASCAM Digital Pocketstudio (DP-006) with some second-hand guitars and pedals, a $13.95 microphone from Jaycar and a drum machine. That all gets loaded into Audacity for a basic mix and master and to export a digital file, but that's about it. Bona fide 4-track recording like back in the old days. A single will be released each month of 2026 that will form the debut album 'Into Rock 'n Roll' on Thursday, September 24th. This month we present 'The Song You Can Play At Home' https://epkbuilder.com/site/royal-commission
