About the Artist

Hugo Basclain is an independent Alternativ- Pop artist originally from Australia’s Central Coast, now based in Los Angeles, CA. Known for his distinctive guitar work and emotionally charged songwriting, Basclain blurs the line between groove and vulnerability—crafting songs that feel just as at home being screamed in a car full of friends on the freeway as they do soundtracking a quiet moment alone. His sound pushes the edges of alt-R&B, drawing from the raw intimacy of Jeff Buckley, the emotional depth of Frank Ocean, and the genre-bending instincts of Omar Apollo and Dominic Fike. With over 4 million streams worldwide, Basclain has built a growing international presence across film, streaming, and radio. His music has been featured in the major motion picture SCREAM VI, alongside editorial support from Spotify and Apple Music, and has received national radio airplay across Australia including Triple J, NOVA, the HIT Network, and JOY FM. He has also been spotlighted on Rolling Stone’s Best Australian Music of the Week and Triple J’s Home & Hosed, further cementing his rise within Australia’s alternative music landscape. Basclain’s sophomore EP, Freeway Flowers, was named one of Rolling Stone’s Best EPs of 2024, marking a pivotal moment in his artistic evolution. He is now gearing up for a series of upcoming live radio and TV performances on ABC and The Hot Hits, alongside the debut of his NOVA Red Room Studio Session, signaling a new level of visibility for the project. Entering his most ambitious chapter yet, Hugo Basclain is preparing the release of his debut album, Miles From Home, set for 2026, alongside upcoming U.S. support tours. With a sound rooted in honesty, human connection, and emotional release, Basclain continues to carve out his own space in the modern alt-R&B landscape, one song at a time. Song Info: “Mum” is about the strange performance of calling home when you’re falling apart. It’s about putting on a convincing version of yourself for the one person who probably knows you better than anyone — telling your mum you’re eating, sleeping, doing well, that everything’s fine — because you can’t stand the thought of her worrying about you. At its heart, it’s about lying to someone because you love them. Growing up means realizing that sometimes protecting your mum looks like letting her believe you’re okay, even when you’re not. The phone call becomes a tiny piece of home: for a few minutes you get to be her son again, instead of the person trying to hold everything together on his own.
