About the Artist

Bio: Hugo S. Simões hails from a small island along the Mid-Atlantic ridge and came up through gigging around the Lisbon folk scene, sharing his songs one basement at a time, having since performed internationally around Europe and in the UK. His solo work balances warmth, grit, and quiet intensity, with lyrics that merge traditional themes with his background as a poet and writer. In June 2025 he released his first single, To Keep Away the Blues, in November his band project Hugo & the Bad Jujus released a Live EP, The Sun Room Sessions, and his second single My Thoughts Know no Bounds came out on March 28th and is available on all streaming platforms. Song Info: My Thoughts Know No Bounds is singer-songwriter Hugo S. Simões’ second single, and a take on an old German folk song of disputed origin: Die Gedanken Sind Frei. With a title that literally translates into “thoughts are free”, the song became popular starting in the 19th century as a freedom-loving anthem against tyranny of all kinds. While the original song has been rendered into English by famous folk artists including Pete Seeger, Hugo S. Simões’ version features entirely different lyrics, expands the song thematically, tweaks the melody and adds a little spice to the mix.
