About the Artist
I have never lived in the ‘inner city’, however, it must hold some fascination for me. I have dreams where I live in terrace houses in places like Glebe, Newtown. ‘BBQ Chicken’ is firmly in the inner city in my mind and there’s something about the potential of someone living amongst millions of people and yet being pretty much alone that speaks to me. There was something in the chicken coupled with a newspaper that was old news that set up what I call my inner-city depression, and the hero of the song was never going to get away from it. This was one of those songs which was written very quickly and was then coupled with Josh’s wonderful guitar. It rolls along nicely. Very cinematic.
