Indie-folk singer-songwriter Jana Leona returns with her new single “while losing my mind”. The track marks the beginning of her upcoming concept EP, which follows its protagonist on an immersive journey from her hometown to the ocean. “while losing my mind” explores the complicated tension between wanting to be loved and still learning how to love and live with yourself. It captures the fear of letting somebody in during a period of isolation, emotional exhaustion and uncertainty — and asks what happens when the right person arrives while you are still struggling to find your way back to yourself. Beginning with intimate vocals and delicate indie-folk instrumentation, the track gradually expands into a fuller and more emotional finale. Ambient neighborhood recordings are woven into the production, placing listeners directly inside the protagonist’s world and allowing them to travel alongside her as the story unfolds. In the outro, the repeated line “but I’ll be alright” becomes a quiet promise — foreshadowing the hopeful journey ahead, even before the protagonist fully believes it herself. Inspired by artists such as boygenius, Lizzy McAlpine and Noah Kahan, Jana Leona combines vulnerable songwriting with cinematic arrangements and detailed sonic storytelling. Her music turns internal struggles into tangible places, sounds and scenes. As the opening chapter of the upcoming EP, “while losing my mind” introduces its central themes: isolation, vulnerability, self-acceptance and the search for somewhere to belong. From familiar streets to the distant ocean, each track becomes another step in the protagonist’s attempt to leave old patterns behind and reconnect with herself. “‘while losing my mind’ is about meeting somebody who makes you want to let them in, while knowing that love cannot do the work of healing for you. It is hopeful, but it also acknowledges how frightening it can be to be seen when you are still trying to understand yourself.”
