Lana Karlay
Geelong pop-rock artist Lana Karlay returns with ‘Think it Through’, a driving new single that captures the moment frustration turns into clarity. Built for late-night replays and car-speaker catharsis, the track is direct, messy, and unafraid to say the quiet part out loud. ‘Think it Through’ sits in the tension of watching someone you care about stay with the wrong person. It is that helpless, selfish mix of wanting to shake them awake while realising you are in deeper than you should be. Lana delivers it with bite and momentum, turning overthinking into something you can shout back at. On the track Lana says, “It feels frustrating, messy and a bit chaotic, that feeling of wanting to shake them and say ‘wake up you deserve better’. At the same time, there’s that selfish emotional side too, because you care more than you probably should. It’s direct, unforgiving and very much a scream it in the car kind of song.” In her final year of high school, Lana wrote the song in Los Angeles during a 17-day school-holiday trip. Lana flew over with one goal, to write as much as possible, and locked in with Mason and Julez, a young Australian brother duo now based in LA. Bringing on mixing and mastering heavyweight Mark Parfitt who has worked with, Justin Bieber, Megan Trainor, Khelani and more, this track is taken to new sonic heights. At the core of it all is still Lana Karlay’s vocals which are the key anchor of all her songs. “This song came together incredibly quickly, it was one of those sessions where everything just clicked. By the end of the day, we all kind of looked at each other and knew we had something really special.” ‘Think it Through’ follows a run of consistent releases since August last year, as Lana continues shaping a bigger body of work and finding her lane in pop-rock without boxing herself in. “If it were up to me, I’d probably release a song every day,” she says. “This is actually my eighth release since August last year, but honestly, there are so many more songs sitting unreleased, half-finished, or still in demo form. Right now, I’m really focused on building my demos and catalogue, improving my songwriting and continuing to learn as much as possible.” With ‘Think it Through’, Lana captures the split-second where concern turns into confrontation. It’s for anyone who has watched someone they care about shrink themselves for the wrong person, and felt that mix of loyalty, anger, and helplessness all at once.
