The Songwriting Sanctuary: Mihali Notaras on the magic yellow couch and his restless heart

From an accidental songwriting partner in the form of a bright yellow leather couch to the profound influence of his Greek heritage, Sydney acoustic-pop artist Mihali Notaras pulls back the curtain on his creative evolution. Fresh off the release of his vulnerable new single "Restless Heart," Notaras opens up about stepping out of his comfort zone in Indonesia, the theatrical roots that shape his live shows, and how finding balance through philosophy keeps his creative tank full as he heads into a major studio season for the remainder of 2026.

About the Artist

Mihali Notaras is an Australian singer-songwriter crafting heartfelt, emotionally driven songs that speak to love, longing, and the human experience. Honest, vulnerable, and timeless, his music invites listeners to find pieces of their own story in every song. Song Info: “Australia” is a heartfelt reflection on what it means to be Australian and to call this ancient land home. The song celebrates Australia’s beauty, resilience and spirit, while honouring the deep connection Aboriginal peoples have with Country and the ancient Dreamtime stories carried through generations. It is ultimately a song about belonging, identity and home.
