About the Artist

Queenie today shares ‘Vivid’, the third sip of her upcoming sophomore album Pleasance, also announced today, out 20 August. It follows the announcement that Queenie will perform at the BIGSOUND this September in Magandjin/Brisbane. It’s hard to pin Queenie down. Her powerful, gripping vocals are reminiscent of Joan Jett or Florence Welch, while her silky songwriting sensibilities lean closer to the likes of Kate Bush, Weyes Blood or Bon Iver. In no song are these comparisons more apparent than ‘Vivid’. Delicate harp and acoustic guitar juxtapose dizzying synth and a soaring horn solo. ‘Vivid’ is an anxious exhale; suspended and luminous, it captures the fragile beauty of a dream realised and the quiet desperation to remain within it. As Queenie puts it, “Through years of instability and unrest, I came to land in a fluffy, safe nest - so beautiful and warm and cosy. Vivid explores not wanting the dream to end, hoping to stay amongst the clouds forever, never waking to a cold, bleak reality and plunging back into the mundane, the grey, the loveless.” Upcoming album Pleasance is a record about coming home, not to a place, but to a self. It is about finding peace not in the absence of complexity, but in the acceptance of it. There is a line Queenie circles without ever needing to state outright, that happiness is not a fixed state, but a practice, something cultivated, tended to, protected. The album’s title itself gestures toward this, a secluded garden, a private enclosure where beauty is allowed to exist alongside the wider, messier world. “Pleasance is full circle. From mourning, to growing, to losing to loving to coming to rest… I wanted this album to be the antithesis to New Moult, my shedding of skins. Pleasance is finally feeling at home in my own body, navigating life in spite of it all.” Raised on Lutruwita/Tasmania’s vast, open landscapes and now based in Naarm/Melbourne, Queenie’s work carries a sense of expansiveness, self assurance and feminine power. Known for her emotionally charged songwriting and electrifying live performances, she continues to build a reputation as a singular force within Australia’s alternative landscape. Queenie’s songwriting has already garnered national attention, with her single Not Divine shortlisted for APRA 2025 Song of the Year that also saw her take out the APRA 2026 Professional Development Award in the Country/Americana genre. With performances at Panama, Beyond the Valley and Party in the Paddock festivals under her belt + recently lending her powerful vocals to Naarm punk band Private Function at their final show, it’s clear that Queenie’s musical prowess cannot be confined by scene or genre. She is here to be heard and the people will listen. Queenie’s debut album New Moult earned a place in the ARIA Top 20 and established Queenie as one of Australia’s most compelling new voices. With this new release, she shakes off expectations and takes the first step into her truest self; fully formed and ready to show the world what she can really do.
