Sister Moonshine
Sister Moonshine are an emerging Adelaide five-piece making a smouldering, smoothly grooving sound; one that blends a love of classic soul and 70s songwriting with the sharpness of modern indie and alt-rock music. The band has its roots in regional South Australia, with powerhouse frontwoman Claudia Prue, guitarist Titan Austin, and drummer Josh Phillips all hailing from the picturesque Eyre Peninsula. After moving to Adelaide, they linked up with bassist Arthur Mezak and keys player Jake Costin to complete the lineup. In contrast to a lot of contemporary pop music – and true to some of their old-school rock influences – Sister Moonshine’s songs are slow-burners, with the band favouring restraint over immediate payoff. Tension develops through layers of musical hooks before opening up into expansive choruses; warm keys and incisive guitar licks build atop the melodic basslines and engaging drum grooves carrying the songs. Meanwhile, vocalist Claudia Prue delivers thought-provoking lyrics that delve into relationship insecurities, communication breakdowns, and emotional instability – inviting the listener to sit in the feelings without necessarily resolving them. She conjures up a dynamic, expressive style inspired by female neo-soul vocalists like Lianne La Havas, Olivia Dean, and Cleo Sol. With debut single Everybody Wants You out now, an EP produced by Dusty Lee Stephensen (Wanderers, Dustyn) soon to follow, and a live fanbase steadily growing, Sister Moonshine are a band already settling confidently into their identity. Song Info: The smouldering, smoothly grooving sound of Adelaide’s Sister Moonshine is set to win hearts all over as the band drops debut single Everybody Wants You. Blending soulful 70s rock vibes with modern mid-tempo indie grooves, Everybody Wants You is a slowburning song of introspective storytelling – with plenty of layers to enjoy, and ample room for all five talented young members to express their musicianship. Principal songwriter and keys player Jake Costin says the song was inspired by frontwoman Claudia Prue telling the story of a friend feeling insecure and becoming possessive on a night out with their partner. “The song starts with how it feels to watch your partner or love interest being courted by other people, whilst pretending you’re cool about it... you start spiralling and ultimately acting a bit jealous,” Jake says. “The lyrical themes explore those feelings of jealousy, and ultimately self-reflecting on the behaviour, before trying to repair things.” Behind Claudia’s soulful vocal delivery, the track cruises along with attitude-packed stabs of guitar and piano before building into a lush, expansive coda arrangement. Everybody Wants You also came to life with one of Adelaide’s finest recent musical exports behind the mixing desk: Dusty Lee Stephensen (Wanderers, Dustyn), who Claudia describes as a ‘dream collab’. “We’re huge Wanderers fans, and we got chatting to Dusty at the Concept Sessions, a brilliant local music event... his friend Steve Salvi (prominent Adelaide luthier) was keen to have a band christen his newly refurbished studio in the Adelaide Hills, where Wanderers recorded their debut years ago,” Claudia says. “Working with Dusty was invaluable – he was able to hear the sound we were going for and provide critical creative advice.” Off the back of a sold-out Pre-Release show at The Grace Emily on 27th June accompanied by Lost Woods and Soulbird, Sister Moonshine gear up to release Everybody Wants You via all digital streaming platforms this coming Thursday 6th August 2026.
