Bio: The music of Tawa Drive combines nostalgic acoustic warmth with hazy dream-pop ambience. Formed in 2024 and based in Meanjin, Australia, the outfit features the twin vocals of Evan Scrimgeour and Samara Nilsen, joined with the drumming of Will FitzGerald and guitar work of Damian Broodryk. Inspired by indie favourites The Postal Service, Alvvays, and M83, the band seeks to create whole worlds within songs, with atmospheric depth building into soaring crescendos, and communicate personal stories of mental health and growing older. Song Info: "mountains" is about wanting to hold on to our youth, and keep the people in our lives close. I (Evan) wrote it after my family moved away to a small town away in the mountains, causing this feeling of isolation, and being 'left behind.' Built around a lo-fi, looping, electronic demo, the rest of our band helped to build "mountains," crafting lively performances which helped deliver the loud, cathartic crescendos which occur throughout the song. Entirely self-produced between each of our bedrooms, and the first to feature our Samara on lead vocals, the song wholly represents where our band is at in our current form.
