About this release

Living on Gadigal land, Katie Reid is a Scottish-Australian singer/songwriter and a hidden gem of Sydney’s Inner West. She crafts heartfelt indie pop music, drawing inspiration from artists such as Maggie Rogers, Holly Humberstone and Kate Bush. Katie has earned her stripes across the Perth, London and Sydney music scenes, performing as a sought-after backing vocalist for some of Australia’s biggest names while simultaneously developing her own original project. Her music explores the highs and lows of love, heartbreak and navigating your 20s as a Pisces perfectionist, turning deeply personal experiences into songs that feel both intimate and relatable.
Katie’s debut EP, Damned if I Do, Damned if I Don’t, is set for release this November. Song Info: ‘It doesn’t count when it’s your friends’  is a song about growing up deeply religious and slowly coming to terms with my bisexuality. As a teenager, I went to church every weekend, but with equal dedication, I went to parties, drank vodka cruisers, and kissed my girlfriends. The song captures the feeling of being pulled between two worlds - the faith I grew up with, and the person I was becoming. At its heart, it’s about the confusion, shame, and freedom that can come with growing up and trying to figure out who you are.
I was privileged enough to work with my friend Tay Blunt (FVNERAL) who produced the song and helped me capture the campy/rock vibes and very specific feelings I was searching for.
