ACADEMY LAUNCHES WITH DEBUT SINGLE "CRYING
ON THE DANCEFLOOR," CROSSING BORDERS AND
BLENDING GENERATIONS
Sydney-based producer and songwriter Nick Paton (PATØN) unveils a new kind of collaborative music project, bridging Australia and the United States with a sound rooted in timeless influences and modern emotion.
The release marks the beginning of something deliberately open-ended: a creative collective without fixed borders, built around the connective tissue of shared musical DNA and the belief that great songs find their people when given the chance.
A Curator, Not Just a Producer Nick Paton is the architect at the centre of Academy. With over 13 million streams as PATØN and production credits spanning Moana, Dani Marchio, ELISHIA, Jude York, and Matt Evans, Paton brings a curatorial approach to the project rooted in the spirit of producers like Mark Ronson and Quincy Jones. Academy is not a band with a fixed lineup. It is a living, evolving project where Paton identifies the right artist for the right song, brings them into the room (or across time zones), and builds something neither could have made alone.
"Crying on the Dancefloor" is the first proof of concept. Written in December 2019, the song spent years moving through channels, passing through the hands of major artists, with label interest along
the way, before Paton made the decision to release it independently, exactly as it was meant to sound.
"Crying on the Dancefloor" is available now on all streaming platforms.
