To Love Again was a track we originally never thought would see the light of day. It was often found sitting in the backlog of songs that never felt 'finished enough' to make the live set until one rainy day in London back in 2024, we took it to our producer Michael Smith (Wolf Alice, Elvis Costello). Charting a journey from heartbreak into the warmth of new love, the story of To Love Again is about trading old ghosts for someone or something that breaths a fresh, hopeful meaning into life's trials and tribulations. Michael took us back to the early 60s, referencing the grandeur of classic wall of sound production as together we built hypnotic harmonies, sweeping strings and a room-filling drum sound. Equal parts nostalgic and triumphant, we wanted to create a song that balances melancholy with uplifting spirit through soaring melodies, jangling guitars and timeless rock 'n' roll instrumentation. It's been incredible to see the release met with radio support on BBC Introducing UK as well as Triple J Unearthed spins and much community radio love globally.
About the Artist
Big Wheels are an anomaly, quite possibly one of the only bands out of Australia right now blending elements of rock, pop, folk and blues. Lead singer/songwriters Cass Ford and Lawson Doyle have built a loyal and growing fanbase not only across Australia but now notably throughout the UK and parts of America. Their ongoing collaboration with London producer Michael Smith, known for his work with Wolf Alice and Elvis Costello, has seen the band hone an ear catching, anthemic sound that balances working class grit with heartfelt, accessible lyricism.
Formed in late 2021 in the spirit of revolution and hope, Big Wheels draw from deep roots in emotive songwriting and empowering delivery, calling to mind influences such as Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles and Oasis.
Recent releases Silver and Black and Bury Me In Velvet continue to gain traction across triple j and community radio nationwide, cementing the band as one of the most exciting emerging voices in Australian rock.
The band first broke into parts of Europe after being selected for an artist residency with Sofar Sounds across the UK in 2023. They played 13 shows in 11 days. They have since earnt ongoing support from BBC Introducing, played a sold out London headline show in 2024 and showcased at festivals including The Great Escape and Maverick Festival.
Back home in Australia, Big Wheels have continued to build momentum with Sydney and Brisbane headline shows selling out in presale. Alongside national festival appearances and an enigmatic SXSW Sydney showcase last year, their catalogue has earned editorial placement across Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music, as well as tastemaker support from rock royalty including Beck and Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty.
Having shared the stage with some of Australia’s finest, including Mental As Anything, The Rions, Pacific Avenue and The Southern River Band, Big Wheels are now gearing up for their biggest year of releases yet, with 2027 marking a new chapter in the band’s evolving sonic journey.
