Meanjin/Brisbane’s Evie Williams returns with ‘What’s A Girl To Do?’, a delicate pop-folk answer to lost love. Shaped by building strings, twangy guitars and Evie's dulcet vocals, she shares a story about the heartbreak of knowing when a relationship has reached its end. Evie Williams is coming off the back of a pivotal release, ‘Heather Court’, that saw her reach new heights. Highlights so far include charting at #5 on AMRAP Indie/Alternative charts, gaining wide community and commercial radio play, and selling out her debut full-band show last year. Now with ‘What’s A Girl To Do?’, Evie leans into a vulnerable side and asks the hard questions, reflecting on her own experience of a relationship breakdown, and knowing when it’s time to leave. Speaking on the single, she shares: "I wrote ‘What’s A Girl To Do?’ at a tough point in my first serious relationship. It was the first time I’d ever experienced uncertainty in someone I loved. I was navigating the process of losing a relationship before it was truly over. When you know it’s done, but the conversation hasn’t happened yet. It highlights acceptance and caring for someone despite losing them." That heartbreaking tension is found in the track's delicate, slow-burning production. With a gentle pulse and dreamy layers, ‘What’s A Girl To Do?’ burns slowly through a hopeful synth-haze and melancholic strings. The track leans further into Evie’s pop-folk side with its twangy guitar bends echoing her longing vocal melodies, and dreamlike strings accompanying the hypnotic bridge. With a hopeful tenderness, the track eloquently paints the desperate emotion of love that is lost and carefully carries the listener through to a wistful ending. Capturing that tender space between nurturing love and choosing ones-self, Evie Williams shares 'What’s A Girl To Do?'.
