About the Artist
As they prepare to perform at Newport Folk Festival, marking another milestone in a landmark year for the group, acclaimed Los Angeles-based trio Tiny Habits share their new single ‘Belt Loop’ - the third preview of their forthcoming sophomore album Keepers (out Aug 28 via Mom+Pop Music).
Following the previously released singles ‘Anything He Was’ with Matty Healy and ‘Right In Front Of Me’, ‘Belt Loop’ is wrapped in a soulful, sophisticated R&B groove as Tiny Habits embrace a more sensual, rhythm-forward sound, with the rhythm section performed by members of Kendrick Lamar’s band. ‘Belt Loop’ navigates the emotional and physical uncertainty that follows the end of a relationship - revealing perhaps the album's most unexpected turn yet. Together, the new singles reveal a band widening its emotional and musical scope while remaining rooted in the intricate three-part harmonies that first introduced them to audiences around the world.
On ‘Belt Loop’, Tiny Habits share: “‘Belt Loop’ allowed us to delve into a new side of our writing and tackle some topics we haven’t previously discussed in our repertoire. The song grew out of the emotional aftermath of an intense breakup, revealing the strange, vulnerable experience of being with someone new for the first time after a relationship ends. There’s a tension in that moment: trying to be present, feeling your way through something unfamiliar, and discovering parts of yourself that maybe haven’t had space to come forward before. Over the past few years, we’ve often been described as ‘cute’ or ‘pretty’ as a band, but with this album, we wanted to embrace a wider emotional and physical range. This song gave us permission to lean into something more playful, sensual, and grown-up, while still keeping honesty at the center of it.”
The follow-up to their celebrated debut album All For Something (2024), Keepers arrives after two transformative years for the band during which they toured alongside artists including James Taylor, Sarah McLachlan, Vance Joy and Noah Kahan and sold out their debut Australian headline tour after previously touring here with Gracie Abrams. The result is a record that captures the uncertainty, excitement, heartbreak, and self-discovery that come with growing into yourself. Across twelve songs, Keepers explores the people, memories, relationships, and versions of ourselves we choose to carry forward, and the ones we ultimately leave behind.
