Dja Dja Wurrung Country/Castlemaine-based multi-award-winning songwriter, musician, disability advocate and writer Eliza Hull OAM's incoming new single 'Balcony' is the final taste before the release of her forthcoming album You'd Think We'd Be Used To Change By Now releasing independently on 4 Dec.
Balcony' is a cinematic, bittersweetly nostalgic track recalling a summer that became impossible to forget - or return to - the song traces the emotional tension between what is and what was and the feeling of "trying to hold onto something beautiful long after it has passed", written with acclaimed producer Liam Howe of Sneaker Pimps.
Travelling to London to work with Howe (one of the UK’s most respected producers - who's worked with fka twigs, MARINA and more, bringing a distinctly British sensibility to Eliza's expanding sonic world) Eliza and Liam wrote 'Balcony' at remarkable speed, capturing the track's energy and fleeting memories almost in real time. Built around a 90s-inspired sound that leans into the world of Portishead and Goldfrapp, the song features a sample from another of Britain's most influential bands: Talk Talk’s iconic 'The Rainbow', giving it beautifully unexpected texture against organic live instrumentation (string trio, drums, guitar), first-take demo vocals, and atmospheric synths; recorded between Howe's London studio and Sound Recordings on Dja Dja Wurrung Country.
With the single, and following her inclusion on the WOMADelaide lineup, Eliza will announce 2x intimate album preview events featuring acoustic performance + album signing + artist conversation in so-called VIC the week of album coming out.
This profile is waiting for you, Eliza Hull!
