About the Artist
Melbourne-based artist Lara Buchanan’s new single 'Anatomy', is a raw, heart-wrenching account of her long road to being diagnosed with median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS), a rare and often overlooked condition.
The track arrives as the latest preview of her EP, Skeleton of a Butterfly, which will be released on 13 November via Community Music. The six-track collection also features breakout single 'Gold' and follow-up 'Only Once'.
Says Lara of the single; “Anatomy is a song I wrote about what it is liked to not be believed that you are sick. I was diagnosed with something called Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (MALS) at 15 years old, after 5 long years of not having answers, being undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed. MALS made eating incredibly painful, and made it incredibly hard to breathe. It was caused by a physical anomaly in my anatomy, but the worst part was not being betrayed by my own body, it was being neglected by the people who were supposed to help me. I truly hope this song can be of comfort to the many, many people who are experiencing the same thing, as unfortunately it is not rare. I want people to know that I see them, I love them, and I believe them.”
Lara has had a standout run of live shows over the past 6 months; her debut headline shows on the East Coast saw Sydney and Melbourne venues sell out, she played a run of packed out showcases at Bigsound last month, completed support slots with Aleksiah and Fool Nelson, and nailed a performance at Live Nation’s Ones To Watch event in Melbourne. Coming up she will be playing hitting the stage at Spilt Milk Canberra.
Lara Buchanan makes music for late-night drives and quiet reckonings. The emerging singer-songwriter blends sharp rock edges with anthemic pop hooks, crafting a soundscape as vivid as it is raw. Unpacking themes of nostalgia, existential dread, and the chaotic freedom of young adulthood, her tracks hit with visceral emotional honesty.
