Behind the song

“You and I” is a cinematic pop ballad about the enduring bond between two people and the courage, hope and connection that can define a meaningful friendship. Written by Milenka, the song explores the feeling of having someone who remains important to you through distance, change and life’s challenges. Its lush, emotional soundscape gives the song a sense of scale while keeping the focus on the simple and universal idea of friendship. For the music video, this theme is brought to life through a cinematic story set along the Central Queensland coastline, following a young boy who sets sail at dawn to find a special gift for his best friend. The visual story is an interpretation of the song’s themes rather than a literal representation of the lyrics. Filmed around Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy, the video captures the beauty and unpredictability of the Australian coast while reflecting the song’s themes of friendship, courage and hope.
