About the Artist
Queensland country artist Trent Richardson is opening his heart with the release of Promise You Now, his most personal song to date, arriving just before Father’s Day. The song was inspired by the difficult journey Trent and his partner, Gabby, experienced following the birth of their son, Archie, and the time they spent in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Promise You Now reflects the fear, uncertainty, hope and unconditional love that shaped one of the most challenging periods of their lives.
Archie was diagnosed with Septo-Optic Dysplasia, a rare condition affecting approximately one in 30,000 people. His diagnosis means facing a lifetime of medication, regular specialist care and legal blindness.
Rather than focusing solely on the heartbreak of that experience, Trent has turned it into a message of love and reassurance — a father's promise to his son and a source of strength for families who have endured similar circumstances.
“I feel like this song could belong to anyone who's experienced the NICU with a baby, or anyone who's ever been in that position where you just don't know what the outcome is going to be,” Trent said.
“It’s such a scary time. I just want people to know there’s a song out there for that dark time, one they can connect with and know they’re not alone.”
The song has already started touching people before its official release, with Trent receiving messages from parents who have connected with its story and found comfort in its message. Those responses have strengthened his belief that Promise You Now could become a meaningful anthem for families who have travelled a similar road.
For Trent, however, the song’s most important listener will always be Archie.
“I hope one day he’ll listen to it and realise how much his dad loves him,” he said.
“I want him to know we’d do anything to give him every opportunity in life. He’s made me a better person, and this is my way of thanking him. He’s such a little warrior.”
The release also has a special charitable connection. Trent will donate five per cent of the song’s royalties to Mater Mothers’ Hospital in Brisbane, as a gesture of gratitude to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who supported his family through one of the most difficult experiences of their lives.
