Just Gus
Bio: Hi, I'm Just Gus! I'm based in Ipswich, Queensland, and have been performing music for most of my life. While Just Gus is a new project, I've spent years playing live, hosting events, and building music communities through my open mic and karaoke business, Just Play Entertainment. The Just Gus project grew out of a desire to create music that feels honest, fun, and unapologetically authentic. My songs are inspired by real experiences, relationships, identity, and the people I meet through the communities I'm lucky enough to be part of. Musically, I sit somewhere between modern Australian rock and indie rock, with catchy hooks, energetic guitars, and lyrics that don't take themselves too seriously. Whether it's a song about wearing odd socks or navigating life's bigger moments, my goal is always the same: bring people together and leave them feeling a little more connected than before. Song Info: Sock Song is a celebration of individuality, authenticity, and having the courage to stand out. As a kid, wearing odd socks was one of the few ways I could express myself. I wasn't allowed to colour my hair, so socks became my way of showing a bit of personality. I never took myself too seriously, and being unapologetically weird often helped me find other people who were comfortable being themselves too. The song's origin is a little unusual. After being gifted a pair of colourful socks, I created a comedy short film on Instagram where I was arrested for buying socks on the street. In the story, the only way to earn my freedom was to write a song about socks—so I did. The track was recorded at producer Paul Thomas Hillier's home studio in Camira, Brisbane, with drums performed by Sam Faulkner (formerly of The Bennies and now Dad Fight). One of my favourite details is that the crowd chants featured throughout the song were recorded by regular singers and audience members from my Karaoke events. More than anything, I hope Sock Song gives people permission to be themselves. Being unique often means being brave, and I love seeing people embrace what makes them different.
